Air pollution is a global health hazard. As the 4th leading cause of mortality, air pollution alone causes 3 million deaths per year. Of these, 88% occur in developing countries like India. In addition, air pollution is known to cause respiratory diseases, such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease; cardiovascular diseases including stroke; and increases the likelihood of pre-term births by 18%.
